TUCSON - A two year old child was hospitalized Wednesday night after being found in a backyard swimming pool.
It happened near Speedway and Harrison.
This is the 10th child to nearly drown in Pima County this year.
Officials won't release the child's condition, or if it's a boy or girl. But will say the child was brought to TMC for Children by ambulance.
Paramedics got the call, around six Wednesday evening.
A child, two years old was found at the bottom of the swimming pool.
A family member called 9-1-1 and performed CPR until medics arrived.
Officials are not sure how long the child was under water.
And officials won't say how the child got access to the pool, which did have a fence surrounding it, whether there was adult supervision prior, or if the child wandered outside alone. That's under investigation.
Paramedics are stressing the importance of water safety ABC's.
A, for active adult supervision. B, for barriers like pool fences. C for CPR classes.
Captain Barrett Baker with Tucson Fire says, "ABC's we talk about it so much, this is a real world example. By that adult being able to give CPR we're keeping our fingers crossed and prayers that this child will be able to make it."
Baker says another important reminder is that water accidents can happen year round, not just in the summer months.
